Graduation Cutie

| on
February 27, 2019
Morning!
Today I want to share another card made with the cutie stamp set by Mama Elephant called Book Worm. There were a few techniques used here i.e die cutting, stamping and copic colouring.
My daughter recently passed her foundation degree and it inspired me to make this card. She lives over in the UK so it would take 1-2 weeks before she would even receive it!
Sometimes, its little details when finishing up the card that can make all the difference. Here, I added some squiggly lines across the book to look like writing. I couldn't help but get excited as I was quite pleased with myself for thinking of it haha...I know, I'm sad but its the little things sometimes that make me smile.
I hope this hum Wednesday is a good one for you. It looks like its going to be a sunny one here in Calgary.
Bye for now!
Cheryl :)

Friendly Panda

February 25, 2019
Hi guys,
Monday mornings eh? Well, they are not so bad for me now...I have every Monday off now and every Friday!!
I feel very fortunate that I was able to reduce my professional working week down from full time to three days per week, permanently. My health wasn't the greatest and my body soon let me know that stress does not help mojo or wellness. So, with support from my hubby and the doctor the change occurred.
Now I am getting into the swing of things and I have this new blog and my mojo has returned.  My colouring is a bit rusty as I haven't been practicing. I have signed up for one of Sandy Allnock's Copic classes. She will get me sorted!
I wanted to bring some sunshine into your lives today and add this card to my blog. Calgary weather has been bitterly cold and snowy, but sunshine helps. Again, another Mama Elephant critter panda, but hey, you should be getting used to that by now! In case you were wondering, the stamp set used is called Book Worm.
You wait until you see the next card from the same set...its awesome even if I do say so myself!
See you again soon,
Cheryl

Blissful Cat

| on
February 23, 2019
Hi guys,
I know, I know....More Mama Elephant stamps. I can not help it!
The background is some ink blending but I also used a technique called masking. I wanted the relaxed pussy cat to look like he is floating with restful sleep. In my mind the cat looked so blissful and serene, I wanted a color combo to reflect this too. So, pink and grey it is!
Lets hope this blissful pussy cat makes you also feel relaxed.

Sending Love and Comfort

| on
February 22, 2019
Hi guys,
Sending sympathy cards of comfort is a lovely thing to do, but getting a design together can be a challenge. Simon Says Stamp had this beautiful heart image that was shouting out 'emboss me'! The details is beautiful.
The color combo came together because I wanted to try this cool blue emoting powder form Tonic. It complimented the black so well to give a crisp finish.
I hope my card inspires you to design a comfort card because (unfortunately) its good to have one waiting in your stash.

Honey Bee Design

| on
February 20, 2019
Hi guys,
I have been setting up my new blog...in doing so it has allowed me to reflect on some of my achievements since card making. My time with Honey Bee Stamps was not long but very valuable. The lovely ladies at HBS opened a door for me to practicably understand what is required when being part of a design team.
Since that time, I now work part time and I have created more time to bring card making into my world. This post is really to showcase the work I did as one of HB designers, but also to give a shout out to the owners too. Thanks ladies!

Cool Penguin

February 18, 2019
Hi guys,
I need some colouring practice and these little penguins were not too intimidating. Again, another cute stamp set from Mama Elephant called Cool Penguins.
It has been the 30 Day Coloring Challenge by @kathrac this month of February, so I have been trying to do a little bit of colouring. Kathy is a bog advocate of colouring and she advises that by doing some colouring every day you can improve your skills.
I loved the sentiment on the card as it taps into my sense of humour!

Concord & 9th Hello Lovely

| on
February 16, 2019
Hi guys,
This is an older post that I moved from my old blog. I loved this card and I was so proud of what I did that I wanted to move it over. Hope you don't mind?!
I have been challenging myself to go out of my comfort zone a wee bit and use watercolor markers instead of Copics. I blame that Kathy over at the 30 Day Color Challenge blog ;)
What I like about this floral image in particular, is the larger petals to give me room to experiment with the markers. As I added the water, I saw the blending effect the water had.
This can be hard to see with smaller images.
I have a number of Zig markers now and my collection is building. I really enjoy the small brush as it helps with adding fine detail. When used on Bristol smooth card stock the color goes on like butter!
I think if I can do this, anyone can. So, get out some watercolor medium and a stamped image and have a go.

Sending hugs, Cheryl :)

I hope this card makes you smile and feel a little lighter today.

Love Is All You Need!

| on
February 15, 2019
Love Is All You Need!
It is a core belief of mine that love makes the world go round, and I would like to think that it is a postive and healthy thing.
For me, love gives me a sense of purpose, whether I am working or I am creating. I am not saying I love all my patients, but I do love to care for others and that gives me a sense of purpose.
Obviously, I love my family, friends and pets but early on in life, I learned that I would have to do a job that would bring me fulfilment if I was ever going to last working for the next 30 years!
Nursing has always given me a sense of purpose and it also correlates with one of my core values that not everyone can help themselves, or be independent of needing help some time in their lives.
When I ask myself, why do I like crafting and why do I want to make cards, then I realise that card making is really an extension of expressing love for myself and for others.
Crafting and cardmaking allows me to switch off from work and allows me to touch, feel and play with colour and mediums.
I used to love art and sewing at school. More than cookery actually, haha. I had to cook when I lived with my parents so that took the excitement off that one!
Good mental health practice, is to connect with what makes you happy and correlate that connection with what some of your core beliefs may be.
Hoping todays post gives you a chance to reflect on you and recognise what makes you happy.

Hugs, Cheryl :)

Valentines Day

| on
February 14, 2019

Hi guys,
I made this card for my hubby for Valentines Day. To make up the card I used Simon Says Stamp February card kit. The stamp set in the kit is so beautiful! In the kit was also a background stamp. Between these two stamps the price of the kit was amazing!
I heat embossed the background stamp and cut she of the written sentiments from the kit. I then stamp the floral images in a soft grey to give it a vintage feel.
What are you doing for Valentines Day?

Creativation 2019

| on
February 09, 2019

Hi Guys,

I was able to attend Creativation 2019! I thought I would end up missing it as my membership had lapsed.
Then I received and email with a code in and voila! I had one week to sort myself out with a flight and a hotel. What can I say?
Thank you Debbie More Designs for giving me the opportunity to be around such creative people again!
I made sure that I hugged a few familiar talented ladies and did a few Make 'n' Takes.
Also, I immersed myself the best my confidence would allow. I tried to be in the moment and take in some creative inspiration.

So where do I go from here, I ask myself? Well, going and sitting around my lovely stamps and being in my craft room would be a start.

Hugs,  Cheryl
